The Space Between Dreams and Waking

The twin black cobra and red falcon rest
underneath collarbone, in burning breast
we paddle across stars, boundless skies
they are my lantern, my hearth, we fly
to roads unfabled, and Parisian castles
my looking glass heart, my fiery vassals
flooding me with warmth and poet’s swill
I wake without them, and the day is still.
